30 Weeks

I am fresh back from the doctors office after my 30 week doctors visit.  Little baby D is doing great.  She aced all 8 of her prenatal screenings today. She is breathing, swallowing, moving, and measuring just as she should be.  She is actually measuring a week and 1 day ahead of my due date.  She has chubby cheeks like big sissy and even opened her eyes during my ultra sound (see below).

The reason for the 30 week ultrasound is my placenta is VERY low.  It is 1 cm away from my cervix, and that is within the danger zone for a vaginal delivery. Read the clinical stuff here.  It is classified as "low lying."  So what does that mean?  If I were to go into labor today I would have to have a c section. The baby would likely not be able to present around the placenta in the birth canal, causing a potentially fatal bleed for mom. Scary stuff, but nothing we can't work around one way or the other.    My doctor isn't worried (neither am I), but we will check again at 34 and 37 weeks before we make a birthing plan.

peek a boo I see you
